Cadent Gas Connections
Cadent Gas Connections
Cadent Gas owns, operates, and maintains the largest natural gas distribution network in the United Kingdom, representing four of the eight distribution networks. They required support with installing steel risers in the North West of England, necessitating the provision of experienced, qualified and accredited engineers.
We were able to secure the work through our excellent reputation and a proposal and quote of our technical abilities.
Prestige Skills began working with Cadent Gas during the Covid-19 outbreak to support them with installing steel risers. The scope of works encompasses partially repairing some risers, while some require total replacement.
The installation of risers can pose a complex task, due to the potential disagreements of pipe placements and ensuring a quality outcome on every job.
A pre-work inspection was carried out to plan the jobs to ensure that there was minimum risk of defects and to ensure that engineers had a method statement to follow. We then signed off this method statement with Cadent and make any amendments if necessary.
Upon beginning the works, areas will be secured with signage and diversions implemented where necessary. Lone working is avoided wherever possible, and Prestige Skills maintains specific risk assessments for working in confined spaces which must be followed. The isolation of local services is carried out by appointed competent persons, who are Gas Safe Registered. Isolation equipment is attached to prevent unauthorised reinstatement. Records of all repairs, maintenance, installation and isolation services are filled out following the completion of each job and shared with Cadent to ensure full visibility. Records are audited on a periodic basis to verify the quality of the work completed by engineers and any inconsistencies or inadequacies are subject to rectifying continuous improvement actions.
We also provide winter contingency resources to ensure that Cadent can continue to deliver their services during the crucial winter months. This involves scheduling engineers to be deployed at short notice for reactive callouts to complete the same jobs as outlined above, meaning that Prestige Skills must ensure that engineers are familiar with Cadent requirements all year round in order to deliver the work.
We continue to deliver this contract to date, ensuring a high quality of work and minimal defects in every job completed. Completion of jobs remains on budget and in adherence with Cadent’s quality objectives and expectations.
